The Learning Project is my plan to learn as many new skills as I can between November 2009 and December 2010. I like to think that it’s a fairly ambitious project given that I’m likely going to be adding to the list of things to do all the time, and that I’ll likely have to be learning all kinds of things at once, but hopefully by the end I’ll be certified/licensed out the wazoo for all kinds of fun random things.
I might not get through everything on the list, but as James Cameron once said:
“If you set your goals ridiculously high and it’s a failure, you will fail above everyone else’s success.”
So here is the list of things to learn so far:
- WSET Level 3, which will see me become a certified sommelier.
- Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Educaton (C.O.R.E), which will see me get my BC hunter number and gain the ability to purchase a hunting license.
- Archery, I don’t know that there is another course I can take but I intend to purchase a bow of my own (I’d been using loaner gear while I learned) and join a local range.
- Motorcycle License, because I’d like to get a motorcycle.
- Boating safety/radio course, not that I get out boating that much, but I’ve always had it in the back of my mind that I’d like one so I figure I should learn some proper procedures for emergencies and whatnot.
- Get Fluent in French, not just stumble about with the broken version I use now.
- Another language (or two), I’m not sure which one but given the city I live in and the city I work in, some dialect of Chinese seems like it might be the best choice.
- Obtain a firearms license, which will let me purchase and use firearms.
- Snowboarding, because I have a board I’ve literally never used and I haven’t even been on a mountain since I was a teen.
- Learn to bake my favourite pie, Apple, from scratch. Success!!
