The genre for the January MOTM was Music Based Film. Rather than choosing a musical, the community voted for an adjacent film style, a confessional from a music junkie. “High Fidelity, directed by Stephen Frears and adapted from the Nick Hornsby novel, is a 2000 film starring John Cusack as a sad sack indy record store owner, who is taking stock of his love life.
In addition to Cusack, the movie features the breakout role for Jack Black, who steals the picture with his manic energy and acting style. It is likely to make your list of Top 5 breakout film roles of the last 50 years.
Matthew Simpson of the Awesome Friday Podcast, represents Canada, Tony Cogan from The Wickerman Podcast waves the flag for Britain, and your American Shepard, rounds out what turns into an International cast. There are some deep discussions of self concept and introspection, to go along with the Jack Black talk which takes up several minutes of the show. Oh, and there is music as well.Think of this as your local indie record store and come hang out for some conversation you wish you were a part of.
