This is my second year as a voting member of OFTA, and this years awards are now announced!
The Online Film & Television Association has selected Anora as 2024’s best film. In addition, it was presented two other prizes. Sean Baker’s film about a exotic dancer who marries a Russian playboy who isn’t allowed to do so also claimed the awards for Breakthrough Performance Female and Male for stars Mikey Madison and Yura Borisov. It joins four films (The English Patient, Traffic, The Hurt Locker, and The Aritst) that have won the top prize while only winning two other awards. The record holder for fewest other wins is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which managed to win only one other award in addition to Best Picture.
The Substance was the most honored film, winning five awards: Actress (Demi Moore), Supporting Actress (Margaret Qualley), Casting, Original Screenplay, and Makeup & Hairstyling. The Brutalist, Challengers, Dune: Part Two, The Wild Robot, and Wicked each earned three awards apiece.
The other acting awards were presented to Adrien Brody for Best Actor in The Brutalist, Kieran Culkin for Best Supporting Actor in A Real Pain, Izaac Wang for Best Youth Performance in Dìdi, and Lupita Nyong’o for Best Voice-Over Performance in The Wild Robot.
Best Foreign Language Film was awarded to I’m Still Here and Best Documentary was given to Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.
